It’s a very exciting time to be part of The Great Pumpkin Run team! We have been working since January preparing the the Fall. From visiting with our farmers, securing permitting, and working with our merchandise providers, it’s been a busy year. However, all of that is complete and we now get to do what we love: put the events on!
Part of our team will be leaving the office for three weeks beginning tomorrow for the first leg of the Fall journey while a few others will be leaving on Monday. We will be traveling countless miles while experiencing what all the Midwest and South have to offer. Even though it’s a lot of physical work, it is very enjoyable. We get to see parts of the country we may not otherwise see and meet wonderful people along the way. While some people dread travel, we see it as an added bonus to our already fun line of work!
A couple of highlights I am looking forward to:
-Food. If you read this blog somewhat regularly, you have probably learned that I really love food! I enjoy trying new cuisines and there is no better way to do that than while on the road. We always try to make it a point to stop in local mom and pop restaurants to discover local fare.
-Watching the seasons change. There is no better place to experience the changing of the season than on a farm in the middle of nowhere. Luckily for me, I will be on a different farm every weekend! I will be able to watch the summer leaves begin to change into those vibrant orange, red, and yellows. I will feel the humidity of the summer air turn crisp with the cooler temperatures. And, I will be able to initially enjoy cold apple cider followed by hot apple cider. Not too shabby!
-Meeting our participants. From seasoned marathoners to walkers who are doing their first 5K, we see all sorts of participants at The Great Pumpkin Run. I enjoy mingling with everyone after to hear their story. If you see me at the post-race festival, be sure to come chat with me about your experience. I’m the shorter guy without hair!
We look forward to kicking off Fall this week and look forward to you joining us on the farm!
